The Cambodia PCS Project

Integrating Passive Cooling Strategies in national building regulations and urban planning will optimize buildings performance, support climate mitigation, and improve thermal comfort of their residents within their work-live-play activities.

Led by the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, and in consultation with the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, and Ministry of Mines and Energy, the project will pursue impactful measures to reduce cooling demand in buildings and urban heat island in cities, with a focus on Passive Cooling Strategies.

The project includes:

  • Policy interventions, including the integration of PCS in building energy regulations
  • The demonstration of passive cooling applications in a pilot building
  • Delivery of awareness raising and capacity building for large scale replication
  • Support for the inclusion of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions from PCS in the next cycle target for Cambodia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

The project is co-led by the UN Environment Programme and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in the context of the Cool Coalition and is funded by the Clean Cooling Collaborative.
